Summary : Country house, built 1770-76 by James Paine for the eighth Lord Arundell in Palladian style. There was some interior remodelling by Sir John Soane circa 1790. After the Second World War the house functioned as a girls' boarding school, known as Cranborne Chase School, but was divided into apartments in the 1990s. It is constructed from limestone ashlar with hipped Welsh slate roofs and comprises a square main block with flanking pavilions. The north front has a rusticated basement below a piano nobile with mezzanine and attic floor over.

Wardour New Castle, designed by James Paine and constructed in 1768. Grade I. (2)

Country house, now Cranborne Chase School. Designed and constructed by James Paine in 1770-76 for the eighth Lord Arundell. It comprises a square main block with flanking pavilions, and is one of the finest Palladian houses in Wiltshire. Grade I. (3,4)

For some years, after the 2nd World War, Cranborne Chase, a girl¿s boarding school functioned in (new) Wardour Castle but later in the 1990s the property was sold and redeveloped as private apartments. (6)
