Summary : Inhumations recovered during excavations at Stonehenge by Hawley, one suggested to be Romano-British. See the main Stonehenge record SU 14 SW 4 for a full description and bibliography of the site. |
More information : SU 12254220 approx. An extended inhumation found in a grave formed by joining together two post holes at Stonehenge. Probably RB. (1)
Two burials were recorded by Hawly. A grave containing an inhumation of an adult male was situated by Y Hole 9. A grave was also found situated between stones 160, 49 and 31. This contained a badly disturbed inhumation. The dates of both are uncertain. Atkinson argues that the former could not be earlier than the Romano-British period, the latter prehistoric. (2-3)
