More information : At anchor in St. Helen's Bay when the Great Storm [of 26/27-NOV-1703] broke. One of her anchor cables parted at 1am, the other being cut, since, in her master's words, 'she laid her gunnells underwater.' Her mainmast was then cut away, and shortly after her mizzen, in an effort to stabilize the vessel. She then drove before the wind and at 4am ran on to the coast near Selsey and broke up. It is not known if any of the crew were lost. (2)(4)
