Summary : Roman road running from Low Borrow Bridge - Kendal - Watercrook. Largely conjectural evidence but some traces purported to belong to a Roman route.
More information : RR 707 Roman Road. Low Borrow Bridge - Whinfell - Kendal.
A branch road left the main route RR 7d (LINEAR 309) at the valley of Borrow Beck near Low Borrow Bridge fort (NY 60 SW 1) and is now probably represented by the track beside the stream which then climbs the steep slopes of Whinfell by a regular and practicable gradient.
The track is damaged by water but the hard base preserves a fine turf strip which marks the road.
Beyond the ridge the road is still a hard green track showing traces of the old stone foundations, and continues to be generally represented by the existing lane past Cockin, Borrans, Patton Bridge and Meal Bank to Kendal. The route is now full of twists yet retains the same general direction all the way from the Whinfell ridge to Kendal. (1)

Margary indicates the destination of the road on his map as Watercrook Roman fort (SD 59 SW 3) but does not mention this in the text. There is no definite route from the junction of Mealbank Road and the Appleby Road (SD 528 944) through Kendal and across the River Kent to Watercrook. See Linear Archive File for further details.
