Ludham Hall

Hob Uid: 133451
Location :
Norfolk
North Norfolk
Ludham
Grid Ref : TG3807017550
Summary : The house was built circa 1611 on the site of a Palace of the Bishops of Norwich which was destroyed by a fire in 1611. The chapel was added in 1627 and the house was re-fronted in brick post 1770. The brick frontage is on a knapped flint plinth with some re-used stone, the house has a plain tile roof. The chapel is of brick with a pantile roof. The south windows of the chapel are blocked in brick which is very little different from that of the walls, suggesting that the building was never in use as a chapel, and a cart door was inserted into the east wall in the 1970s.
More information : (TG 38071755) Ludham Hall on site of (NAT) Bishop's Palace (NR) (1)

Ludham Hall was a house of the Bishops of Lincoln. (Sic; should be
Norwich, a slip by Pevsner). It has a plain Georgian front but the
gable-end shows that this is only a remodelling of a Jacobean house,
which itself was a rebuilding and enlargement of an earlier house
after a fire in 1611. (2,3)

Ludham Hall. Medieval in origin, but largely rebuilt early in C17th.
Grade II. (4)
