Summary : The site of the first Hammersmith station, the original terminus of the Hammersmith and City Railway, opened on 13th June 1864. When the London and South Western Railway was in the throws of building its Kensington to Richmond line, it impeded upon the site of the Hammersmith and City terminus. As a result, a new station opened a short distance to the south on the 1st December 1868 and the original closed and was subsequently demolished.
