More information : In May 1992 the RCHME: Ferrybridge Henge Project recorded the cropmark of a sub-rectangular enclosure at SE 4639 2399. The four sides of the enclosure are very slightly sinuous, and the corners are curved. The dimensions of the enclosure are approximately 40 x 34m. A report and a plan can be found in the NMR archive (Coll UID 922907). (1)
Cropmark remains of a complete rectilinear enclosure with curved corners seen centred at SE 4639 2399. The enclosure is defined by a single ditch and measures 35m x 40m and has a single central pit. The enclosure is located on a short length of fragmented trackway aligned NW-SE which is defined by two parallel ditches 94fm long. The south-western ditch of the trackway appears to continue past and beyond the enclosure in a very fragmented state for 50m. The trackway meets a longer trackway a right angles at SE 4644 2388.
The enclosure and the majority of the surrounding features were mapped in the 1992 survey ((1) above) and have remained unchanged. The area was mapped again from aerial photographs between the 6th and 9th June 1997 for the RCHME: Industry and Enclosure in the Neolithic project. This survey detected the enclosure in greater detail and the fragmented trackway which was not visible on the photographs available in 1992. All digital files, the plan and report are held by the RCHME (Collection UID: 1082880). (2) |
