Location :

Summary : The former Lodge Hill House, a large detached Georgian residence situated on Deangate Ridge and demolished in the 1960s, has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The house, a private dwelling comprising a main central block of two storeys with lower two storey side wings, was aligned along the ridge, with views to the north and south. It was located to the north of Lodge Hill Ordnance Depot (Monument 1077634) and just to the west of the First World War anti aircrft battery (Monument 1442424). The house was evidently not in military use during the First World War, but was occupied whilst the anti aircraft guns were active. Admiralty records indicate that the lessee complained about the sighting of the battery so close to the house. Lodge Hill House was demolished some time in the 1960s: it is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1961, but had disappeared by 1970.
