Depicted.(3)
The Bastille gate, (called le Derngate in 1411), was located at the end of Earl's Mill Lane, just South of the R. Sherbourne. It was demolished in 1849. It appears to have been a rectangular, two- storeyed building with embattled parapets, but an extra storey was added when it was converted to a dwelling ca.1675.(4)
In 1748, it is depicted with a turret or cupola on the roof, and the gate was pierced by a single arch.(5)
