Cottingham. The park was first mentioned in 1241 and was described as well enclosed and 4 leagues in circumference in 1282. The park contained pasture for 500 deer and other animals and included the woods of Southwood and Northwood. The park pale adjoining North Wood was put in repair and deer leaps made circa 1365. Three of the manors of Cottingham which emerged in the 15th century had a share of the park and the woods. The park may no longer have held deer in the 16th century when the shares of the various manors were let for herbage. (2)
