Summary : South Kentish Town underground station was opened on 22nd June 1907 with the surface building designed by Leslie Green in maroon glazed fiance. It is of two storeys with the ground floor originally housing the booking office and upper lift landing whilst a mezzanine floor contained the lift winding gear. The station was closed during a labour strike at the Underground Group's Lots Road power station in Chelsea on 5th June 1924 and was never reopened. The platforms were used during World War II as air-raid shelters and have since been removed. The surface building is now in use as a shop, its external appearance little changed. |
