More information : TA 20609 4854. Lozenge pillbox. (see TA 14 NE/16 for full description) This lozenge pillbox was one of a series of pillboxes positioned around Hornsea facing towards the town. These were intended to hold any possible invasion in the town until help could arrive. It is positioned on the north west edge of Hornsea, and is built from reinforced concrete. The site was visited by the Fortress Studies Group in 1992 during the Holderness Survey, they found the site to be in good condition and felt that it was at little risk. (1)
The monument is also visible as an upstanding structure on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. (2)
