More information : TA 2087 4711. Lozenge pillbox.
(see TA 14 NE/16 for full description)
This lozenge pillbox was one of a series which faced towards the
town. This, in the event of an invasion, was intended to try to
contain the enemy within the confines of the town. This pillbox is
situated to the west of Hornsea Burton, it had a deepened end loop and had three loops in the front wall; the centre loop having been widened to increase the field of fire. The site was visited by the Fortress Studies Group in 1992 during the Holderness Survey, they found the site to be in good condition and felt that it was at little or no risk. (1)

The monument is also visible as an upstanding structure on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. The pillbox appears to be surrounded by a barbed wire perimeter. (2)
