More information : (TA 1338 4903) Pentagonal pillbox.
This pentagonal shaped pillbox, positioned to the north of Catfoss Airfield is a `sister' to the similar pillbox to the south (TA 1342 4777). It is bigger than the `standard' pillbox, with walls 3'6" thick and a roof 18" thick. This again has an unusual cruciform internal anti-richochet wall. It also has stepped embrasures fitted with Turnbull Mountings. This pillbox has suffered severe damage to the south side due to attempted demolition. When the site was surveyed by the Fortress Studies Group in 1992 the site was in poor condition, both due to the damage and it being totally overgrown, they considered the site to be at little risk of further damage.
