Summary : The remains of a Bronze Age round barrow on Denzell Downs, forming part of a barrow cemetery. The barrow measures roughly 24 metres across overall, with a mound of earth and stone 3 to 4 metres high surrounded by a band of levelled ground. The centre of the mound was modified during World War II to form a defence post, (possibly related to the nearby airfield of St Eval). |
More information : [SW 89976766] TUMULUS [O.E.] (1) This is a bowl barrow with no trace of a ditch. Ploughing of the perimeter has caused a false berm, and the centre has been dug out to insert a 1939-'45 pill-box. Surveyed at 1:2,500. (2) Barrow. (3)
