Full description

1. In 1134, Audrey de Scellea gave her manor at Wood Walton, and an island called Higney, to Ramsey Abbey. Her sons seized it back during the civil war between Stephen and Matilda, but it was retrieved shortly afterwards. It has been assumed that the grange was located at the same site as the present Higney Grange (prefref 05374), but this is not certain and no trace of any medieval buildings survive. English Heritage believe that the SAM Moated Site (prefref 01029) may be the grange.
