Full description
1.A possible later prehistoric or Roman settlement complex comprising irregular curvilinear and rectangular ditched enclosures is visible as faint cropmarks on aerial photographs to the south east of Buckworth, centred at TL 15977 75927. The site consists of a scattered group of partial enclosures with an area of linear settlement at its centre. The cropmarks are visible over an area measuring approximately 350 m by 290 m. It is unclear which features are contemporaneous. Medieval or post medieval ridge and furrow appears to overlie the site, suggesting that the settlement is earlier in date. These features were recorded from EH Reconnaissance aerial photographs of 2011.
