Summary

A section of King Street Roman Road was seen in a pipe trench north of Stretton vicarage in 1971. The road was made up of a 9inch (23cm) layer of gravel with stones up to 2ins (5 cm) in diameter and dark sandy soil, lying on a bed of harder gravel. There was no obvious edge. King Street Roman road runs between Wilderspool and Middlewich and then onto Chesterton in Staffordshire.
