Summary

A section of Roman road was examined in a field opposite Stretton vicarage in 1974. The structure consisted of a layer of stones 15cm thick, laid on a subsoil of sandy marl above stiff clay. The surface was worn and irregular. A surface width of 8.4 metres was recorded.
King Street Roman road runs between Wilderspool and Middlewich and then onto Chesterton in Stafffordshire
