Roman road surface seen in a trench under A59 during construction of the M56. The Roman surface was around 25cms below the modern road level and composed of pebbles around 2-5mm in diam.
King Street Roman road runs between Wilderspool and Middlewich and then onto Chesterton in Staffordshire
