Full description

The OS survey at 1:2500 in 1961 records the remains of low grass covered banks in the south-west of the settlement at Bosigran (30696). They have a maximum height of 0.8m with a few upright projecting granite slabs set on edge. The east and south sides are of dry stone walling up to 1.6m high incorporated in the modern field wall. On the north side is an orthostat 1.5m high. The remains are too slight and mutilated for certain identification but they are almost certainly part of the settlement (h1). Pool and Weatherhill in 1979 record a definite courtyard house with a north-west facing entrance and one jambstone 1.0m tall. The courtyard and one long room survives, with jambstones in situ, but the round room, normally found opposite the entrance, has disappeared beneath the field wall and a dump of large boulders. The walls of the house are no more than stony banks up to 0.9m high (b6). Weatherhill in 1982 gives the measurements of the traceable extent of the courtyard house as 13m by 13m (h3, b7). Planned at 1:200 by CCRA/NT in 1982. Walls are now stone and earth banks up to 1.1m high. The south and east parts of the house are overlain and hidden or destroyed by field boundaries and lynchets. The site is visible on air photographs (p1, p2) and was plotted for the NMP.
