Full description
Trenethick house is mentioned by Henderson (b1) and is recorded on the OS map of 1963 (b3). The building is mainly 16th century with 18th century alterations to the sides, but incorporates parts of an older house. The façade is of ashlar granite, two storeys, and has eight windows with granite mullions and label moulds. It has three gables, irregularly spaced and of unequal size. Around the house is a very high wall enclosing a forecourt and a two-storey gatehouse with Tudor arched doorway (b5). It was built by the Hill family and remodelled in the 17th,18th and 19th centuries. It is slightly irregular, `U' shaped in plan with the rear wings - 16th and 17th century service wings, probably on the site of earlier wings. The stables adjoining the farmhouse are late 17th century in date.
The OS in 1971 record Trenethick as externally an outstanding C16 house (h1). It is a Grade I Listed building (b4) and is named on the OS map of 1978 (b6).
