Full description
In the 14th century, the estate of Trerice passed from the Trerice family to the Arundells. It seems that it was sub-let by the Arundells to various other families until 1540. Nevertheless, the 14th to 15th century house is described as a 'mansion' (b1, b2). Traditionally it was thought that the south wing of the extant country house retained fabric from this earlier phase of the building (4), but this is now thought to be unlikely and traces of an earlier building have been identified on the north elevation of the surviving house and below-ground foundations may also survive (5, 6).
