Full description
The settlement and manor of Roscarrock is first recorded in the Domesday survey of 1086 when it is spelt "Roscaret" (b1). There are two Domesday entries which may apply to Roscarrock. One records it had "land for 4 ploughs... Meadow, 1 acre; pasture, 10 acres". The other records "land for 1 plough" (b2). The name is Cornish and contains the elements ros meaning 'promontory, hill-spur, moor' and karrek meaning 'rock' (b3). Farm of 492 acres in 1867 with water-power threshing machine (5). Roscarrock is still occupied.
The tree ring analysis of oak timbers from Tyers report (2003:30) indicates that timbers felled in AD 1510-1540 are present in this part of the building (4)
