Full description

The settlement of Bosigran is first recorded in 1333 when it was spelt "Bosygarane" (b4). The name is Cornish and contains the element bod meaning 'dwelling' (which implies a settlement of early medieval origin) and possibly garan meaning 'crane' (b7).
The development of the settlement since 1834 is discussed in a report for the National Trust, the owners, by Peter Herring (b8). Eric Berry visited the site in 1982 and produced a measured plan and elevation of the dilapidated house which had C17 origins (h1, b6). His proposals for restoration were not accepted and the house was demolished in 1984 (b8). Two other occupied houses (30714.2, 30714.3), a barn (30714.4), two dwellings now used as barns (30714.5, 30714.6) and a pigsty (30714.7) were also noted (h2, b8).
