Full description
Isolda, the last of the Cardinan family, granted Restormel to Earl Richard of Cornwall. In the late C13, his son Edmund made Restormel his principal residence. Under him, the wooden buildings inside the shell keep were replaced with stone dwellings in 2 stages - kitchen, hall, chamber, ante- chapel, bedchamber and guest apartment. The castle also had an outer court or bailey (6730.04). There was a lord's private room beyond the chapel with a secret stair to the wall-walk. In the great hall there was a speaking tube from the wall walk to a window (b11).
