Full description

WC Borlase records the find of Roman coins during his excavation of a cairn at Watch Croft (30668). A third brass Roman coin was found on top of the earth in the cist (30668.1) upon the removal of the cover stone. Several other stones were found in the cist, one of which was probably of Constantine (b1). Haverfield in 1924 records eight or nine copper coins were found by Borlase, five of which were presented to the Truro Museum. One Constantine Follis, one Crispus, and one Constantine Junior, and the rest illegible but apparently coeval. He adds that there can be little doubt that the coins were buried in the mound subsequently to its erection (b6). Russell in 1971 lists the find of Roman coins now at Truro Museum (b7).
