Full description

Hirst lists a feature to the east of the enclosure at Chykembro (30756.2) which he describes as a barrow (b3). The OS who surveyed the site at 1:2500 in 1960 record a small circular feature formed by a wide bank of earth and stones which may be a hut circle with an entrance on the east, but could be a robbed barrow, the apparent entrance being an excavation trench (h1). Russell in 1971 lists under 'Barrows' a mound with a retaining wall and possible inner ring of stones (b5). The OS revisited the site in 1975 and record a damaged mound which is possibly the remains of a bowl barrow. It is approximately 8.0m in diameter, 0.9m high with a central sub-circular 0.4m deep depression. The north side has been cut by a field wall and there is no trace of the inner ring of stones noted by Russell (h2). Weatherhill in 1982 records the feature as a possible hut rather than a barrow (h3, b6).
