Full description

On the lower overgrown western facing slopes of Chapel Carn Brea are the extant remains of a barrow which was incorrectly sited, initially, by Dudley on a map (b1). Correctly sited by Russell in 1971 (b2) and surveyed by the OS in 1960 (h1) and sketch surveyed by Gerrard for CAU in 1985 (h2, b3, b4). Field visit by the OS in 1985 (h3) and further survey by CAU in 1990 (h4). It comprises an earth mound of 8.0m diameter retained by the partial traces of orthostatic kerbing of which only five stones are extant. The site is very overgrown but some indication that there are interior orthostats possibly defining the traces of an entrance (h1). Part of barrow group 16073. Quinnell adds that there is nothing exposed to confirm suggestion that this might be an entrance grave (h3). The monument is included in the Schedule.
