Full description

The Hornworks are a set of earthworks crossing the neck of the peninsular to the north-west of Pendennis Castle and enclosing the summit of the area so defined. They are are shown on Christian Lilly's plan of 1715 (b2) and were constructed by the Royalists and held against the Parliamentarians in the siege of 1646 (b18). Little survives above ground in this area due to re-use by the military and more recently the car park (h2, b17) though recent geophysical survey by R Walker suggests that features may be detectable beneath the make-up layer of china-clay waste in the car park (h6, b20). Scheduled January 1993 as 10552/01. An additional point at SW 821 322 is Scheduled as 10552/03.
