Full description

Lesquite Quoit is the remains of a burial chamber; the capstone (5.1m x 3.3m) stands at a steep angle off one of the original supports, and the others seem to have been removed or smashed. To the north there is another orthostat 1.2m high and 2.7m long, which may have formed part of a complex entrance way, but which is just too far away to have supported the capstone. Opinions differ as to whether there are traces of a mound remaining or whether there are stone clearance heaps in the area (b2,b3,h1). Only flint flakes and four eroded Romano-British sherds were found on the site (b5). It is a Scheduled Monument and at present in a pasture field, in unchanged condition since it was first recorded by Lake (b1). The remains of this feature are visible on air photos (p1) and were plotted as part of the NMP.
