Full description

In 1934, one burial in this cemetery was found in digging trial pits for building foundations, through a sand dune (b1,b10). The burial was in a cist, and by analogy with harlyn bay, was assumed to be of ia date. Further investigation took place 1950-52, because of the proximity of this early find to the dark age settlement (22101). 17 Burials were found all oriented nw-sw 14 in long-cists, and all but two (22101.71) Extended, heads to the w. Men, women and children present, the children in a separate part of the graveyard. No grave-goods; no associated chapel found, (b2 187-9, b10) a series of postholes could have been modern (b10,7). "Nothing was found to link cemetery and settlement. Nonetheless, their contiguity is inescapeable", and an early medieval date assumed (b10,1)
