Full description

The northernmost barrow of the group of four at Treen. It is named by Daniel as 'Treen North' and described by him as a round barrow 6.0m to 7.6m in diameter with a depression in the south-western part. Immediately to the south of the centre, are the remains of an entrance grave extending to the edge of the barrow, at present 0.9m long by 0.76m high and 0.6m wide (b9). The OS who surveyed the barrow at 1:2500 in 1961 record that it is incorrectly positioned on the OS map of 1908 (b5). The mound is of earth and stone construction, 1.1m high and is as described by Daniel (h1, p1). The barrow is correctly positioned on the OS map of 1963 (b11) and is listed by Russell in 1971 as an entrance grave (b12). The OS in 1975 record no change from the survey of 1961 (h2). Sheppard in 1984 reports that the northern tomb, north-west of the other barrows, had an entrance to the south-west and is in good condition with no recent disturbance, but the approach of brambles from the surrounding area is noted (h4, b15). Visible on air photographs (p1, p2) and was plotted for the NMP. The monument is included in the Schedule.
