Full description

To the west of Porthmoina Mill is the dressing floor shown schematically on the 1842Tithe map (b3) and planned at 1:200 by the National Tust in 1984 (h3, b8 - 11). It is roughly rectangular, approx 29m E-W by approx 17m N-S, with south and west sides as stone faced walls and the north side a revetment wall against the natural slope. The dressing floor and mill have been cut into the ground. A well defined stone lined settling tank is immediately west of the mills south end. A stone lined channel 0.4m wide, 0.3m deep runs from this tank (3.4m by 2.3m by 1m deep) to a very well preserved trapezoidal buddle 4.9m long, 1.2m wide at the narrow end and 2.4m wide at the west end. It has a carefully shaped lip at the west end. Another four settling tanks lie to the west and south of this buddle; some still contain red powdery tin slime. A second dressing floor (30793.5) lies to the west of this one (b11).
