Full description

Built into the north west corner of a secondary dressing floor (30793.5) of Porthmoina Mill is this small rectangular building, now ruined, and planned at 1:200 by the National Trust in 1984 (h3, b8 - 11). It is 3.4m by 1.6m internally with stone faced walls to 1.0m high and a narrow 1.0m entrance at the west end of the long south wall. The function is unclear. A bearing stone corbelled into the west wall 0.6m above the ground presumably held a rotating machine or piece of equipment whose other end may have turned on a bench supported by an upright granite 0.4m high at the east end of the building. Presumably an ancillary workshop for the stamping mill (b11).
