Full description

A mid-C19 reservoir not recorded on the Tithe map c1840 (b1) but is recorded on the 1st Edition 1:2500 OS map of 1876 (b2) on the boundary between Bosigran and Rosemergy. It was planned at 1:1000 by the National Trust in 1984 (h1, b3 - 5). It appears to have replaced smaller reservoirs further downstream (30793.8) and presumably pre-dates the 1861 shift of the stamping mill in the Porthmeor valley. It has a massive curving dam of earth and stone banks to 4.0m high and the pool covers circa 900 square metres. A large 3.0m wide gap in its downhill side is probably on the site of the sluice (b5). It is assumed to have supplied water for Porthmoina Mill (b5), possibly replacing two reservoirs to the north (30793.80).
