Full description

The steam engines of Carn Galver Mine, operated from at least 1834 to 1875 required water for their boilers. This was obtained with difficulty as the mine is within a dry valley. Two gullies or leats dug along the lower north-west slopes of Carn Galver to capture run off water and carry it along the three excavated tanks immediately south of the B3306, apparently clay lined and irregular in shape and between 1.8m and 2.5m deep. The leats are sinuous, narrow (0.3m to 0.4m wide), 0.4m to 13m deep. The main northern leat is 68m long. Located and planned at 1:1000 by the National Trust 1984 (h1, b16).
