Full description

An engine house of the stamping mill at Bosigran is shown on the 1876 OS map. It was built by G Eustace of Hayle in 1872 for the 9-inch and 17-inch horizontal compound steam engine which operated a set of Husband's pneumatic two-headed stamps (b1). The 1st Ed OS 25" map of c1880 shows the engine house at the south end of a long boiler house with its stack on the west wall. The engine house has been demolished and a roughly square 1.5m deep pit is all that survives. Presumably this was to allow the engine, only three years old at the time of the mine's closure (b2), to be removed. The boiler house survives as a ruined structure circa 8.0m by 2.4m internally with walling in the long east and west walls surviving up to circa 2.2m high. The north gable wall reaches 4m. The chimney has fallen but a circular stump 1. 8m high and a 2.7m diameter at the base still survives 1m to the west of the boiler house (b6).
