Full description

The central wheelpit at Bosigran stamps is probably the site of the 18 feet in diameter waterwheel noted in 1864 by Spargo (b1). Its site is recorded on the 1st Edition 1:2500 OS map of 1876 and it was planned at 1:200 by the National Trust in 1982 (h1, b3-5) and was visited in 1986 by Herring (h2, b6). The pit is stone lined and is 6.0m long and 1.2m wide. Now up to 1.8m deep with some rubble infill. Local tradition relates that it contained a booster wheel for the main stamping wheel (33247.01) to its south (b6).
