Full description

The northern of the three wheelpits at Bosigran stamps is the site of either the 24 or the 25 feet wheel recorded here in 1864 by Spargo (b1). Its site is recorded on the 1st Edition 1:2500 OS map of 1876 and was planned at 1:200 by the National Trust in 1982 (h1, b3-5) and visited by Herring in 1986 (h2, b6). The stone lined rubble pit is now rubble filled and overgrown. It is 9.5m long and 1.2m wide. The wheel would appear to have powered stamps in a second stamping mill (33247.09) served by a second dressing floor (33247.05). Water would have reached this waterwheel by launders; no leat survives (b6).
