Full description

The ore delivery platform of the northern stamping mill (33247.09) is a massive wall, now partly collapsed. It is recorded 1st Edition 1:2500 OS map of 1876. Planned at 1:200 by the National Trust in 1982 (h1, b3-5) and visited by Herring in 1986 (h2, b6). The platform is 3.2m wide and up to 4.0m high on its north side. Its south face has now collapsed onto the stamping area. Connected to the ore spalling floor to the south west (33247.12), is a shallow gully (0.2m deep) which runs along the top of the platform, presumably created by barrows bringing ore to the chutes feeding the stamps (b6).
