Full description

A cairn shown on OS maps of 1907 (b1) and 1963 (b2). Surveyed by the OS in 1973 (h1) and by the RCHM in 1984 (h2, h3, b3). This cairn is located in a crest position at the north east edge of Greenbarrow Downs plateau. It is in fairly good condition, save for an old turf-covered excavation. Described by Quinnell in 1984 as a prominent round barrow with an overall diameter of 15m comprising a platform 0.5m in height with a central mound 8.0m in diameter and 0.5m high. A rim around the edge of the platform is 2.5m wide and 0.1m high on the inner face.This bank is concealed in the north and east quadrants by mutilation and spoil from an old excavation in the centre. No evidence of a ditch, but a few stones at and near the north perimeter may indicate a kerb (h3). One in a group of three barrows, and very similar to another in the group (1634.2). The monument is included in the Schedule.
