Full description

A sepulcharal or clearance cairn situated on a hilltop in open close-cropped moorland and apparently associated with a field system and settlement (1929). This feature was surveyed from the air and on the ground in the 1980s by the RCHM (h1, h2, b1). According to the latter, it is a turf covered stony spread, approximately 5.4m in diameter and 0.3m high, its centre has been excavated to a depth of 0.3m. The purpose of the mound cannot be positively identified; it could be a small sepulchral or, more likely, a laid clearance cairn similar to others found within the field system (1929.3).
