Full description

Ince Castle is one of the earliest brick buildings in Cornwall (c1630, according to the English Heritage Listing Description). It has usually been assumed that the bricks were imported, perhaps from Holland, but Stephen Roberts makes a case for the bricks having been produced locally (DCNQ, Spring 1989, p171). There is good evidence for brickmaking in the locality at a later date, which would tend to reinforce this view (JRS). The brick-making site is unlocated.
