Full description

A cairn recorded on the 2nd Edition 6-inch OS map c1907 was surveyed in 1976 by the OS (h1). Resurveyed in 1984 by Quinnell (h2) and depicted on the air photo plot (h3, b1). It is a very ruined cairn with an overall diameter of 15m and 0.4m to 0.8m high, in a hilltop position in an expanse of well grazed pasture and close to the large Bronze Age settlement of Leskernick (3159). About 2.0m within the perimeter a half dozen stones, paired and spaced, indicate a former retaining circle with a diameter of 11m. A further 3.0m within this there appears to be another circle cum retaining wall of inward-leaning slabs enclosing an area of 5.0m in diameter. A shelter (3504.1) has been constructed in the NE quadrant (h2).
