Full description
Lostwithiel Station opened on 4th May 1859 as part of the Cornwall Railway. It included two platforms with wooden buildings on each of typical Brunel design, a goods yard, and to the south the main locomotive shed and carriage and wagon works of the CR. In 1869 Lostwithiel became the junction for the broad gauge Fowey branch, and was remodelled in 1895 with a bay platform for the branch trains. The signal box controlling the level crossing at the north end of the station dates from 1893, and is still in use (2009). Goods facilities were withdrawn in 1964. Both the principal platform buildings have been replaced by new structures, the down side in 1976 and the up side in 1982.
