Full description
The most important medieval quay in Truro was probably at Back Quay, between SW 8263 4474 and SW 8279 4469, on the Kenwyn River (b2). Back Quay remained in use in the C19 (b1). A fish market was held here in the late C18 and early C19. The river was covered over in 1923 and is now used for car parking. Sheppard (b2) notes that early references to the "Town Quay" may relate either to this or to other medieval quays on the River Allen (see 18944, 18945).
