Full description
A bridge carrying the Cornwall Railway over Elliot Road at 285m 68c. The bridge is of squared masonry with a parabolic arch having cut stone voussoirs. Above the arch is a low coped stone parapet, and flanking the arch on either side are pilaster buttresses which form a vertical extension of the ramped wing walls. The wing walls are incurving to the arch, where the voussoirs have been dressed to the curve. The railway is on a high embankment at this point, and as a result the bridge is approx 22m wide. A complete and unaltered CR bridge, built by Sharpe & Sons (contractors), between 1852 and 1855 (JRS).
