Full description
A railway tunnel at Highertown, Truro. The 70 yds Highertown tunnel was opened in 1859 and gave access to the Falmouth portion of the CR (not opened till 1863) and also the line of the standard gauge West Cornwall Railway. The tunnel was built as double-track to accommodate both lines, which ran separately through the tunnel until 1893 when Penwithers Junction was remodelled (not inspected).
