Full description
Perran Tunnel, on the Cornwall Railway Falmouth line, is 374 yards long. Work was commenced in spring 1853 by the contractor, Mr Samuel Garratt. He became insolvent in winter 1854, and work was suspended until 1862, when the tunnel was completed and opened in August 1863. There were two working shafts, which were backfilled when the tunnel was complete but which left dumps at surface (JRS).
